Easy Updates to Make Your Life in the Kitchen Easier

We’re all familiar with the post-work fatigue that hits as soon as you get home and think about cooking dinner. From prep work, to clean-up, to the actual cooking itself, the list of steps can stretch on until making dinner seems like an insurmountable chore rather than a fun and creative way to relax after work. With all the challenges in between you and a delicious home cooked meal, it’s important to make sure that your kitchen isn’t one of them. With your kitchen in your corner, you’ll be set up for culinary success every day when dinner time rolls around. While you can make the most impact on your cooking efficiency while designing a new kitchen or renovating an old one, it isn’t hard to introduce some basic steps that will make your life easier without a whole new kitchen.

The easiest and most impactful way to get your cooking schedule back on track is to invest in accessories that will help you out where you need it most. The key is to look at what’s holding you back, and choose products accordingly so you save yourself the most time without introducing more clutter. Companies like Pearl Canada often feature accessories that are custom made to work with their sinks, as well as ones that can work with any size. My personal favourite game-changing accessory is the roll mat. This nifty little gadget lets you transform your sink into versatile counter space that you can use when things start to get a bit too crowded. Chances are, unless you have way more space than you know what to do with, you’ve run into more than a few situations where some more room wouldn’t hurt, and a roll mat can instantly take care of that problem.

Another great step to take that will save you tons of headaches in the future is to not only organize your kitchen, but also plan out your meals ahead of time. There’s nothing worse than finding out halfway through cooking that you’re missing a key ingredient on the spur of the moment recipe you found, running out to buy it, only to find some later at the back of a cupboard. At this point, you’ve added extra stress to your life, wasted time and money on new ingredients, and possibly stopped cooking at a crucial moment that hurts the quality of your dish. It takes some doing, but if you can set aside a weekend afternoon to organize your kitchen it will pay off almost immediately. If you also take the step to set aside some time at the start of the week to plan out what you’re going to cook and get all the ingredients ahead of time, you’ll be ready as soon as you get home and be mentally prepared for what you have ahead.

If you do have the luxury of renovating, there are lots of easy ways you can prep to have fun cooking in your new kitchen. One of my favourite kitchen upgrades is a pot filler. These unique taps are installed over your stove instead of over your sink, and can be pulled out to fill big pots that are already on the stove. No more lugging full pots of heavy water in between your sink and your stove! Another great switch to make is between a top mount and an undermount sink. Unlike the old fashioned options, undermount sinks are installed under your counter, leaving you with a sleek surface that looks good and is easy to clean. This means that you can easily wipe down any crumbs or messes into your sink when you’re done, saving you time and effort on the least fun part of cooking.
